The fees are as follows:

Minsi Trails Scouts: $300 if paid by June 30th, 2023, $400 paid after June 30th, 2023

Out of Council: $350 if paid by June 30th, 2023, $450 paid after June 30th, 2023

Youth Leader Nomination

Troop, Crew, or Ship nominations for youth to attend the Minsi Trails Council 2023 National Youth Leadership Training will be online. After registration, a check made out to Minsi Trails Council 2023 NYLT in the amount of the balance due per nominee will need to be sent to council (the address will be online). Nominations need to be submitted by June 30, 2023. The $300 fee is due by June 30, 2023, otherwise an additional $100 will be charged ($400 total). Please provide a contact email. Course confirmation letter and information will be sent by email.

What’s the Cost?

  • The cost for the course is $300.00 per Scout, Venturer, or Sea Scout which includes all food and training materials. Out of Council participants fee is $350.
  • If fees are not paid in full by June 30, 2023 the fee is $400.00 For out of Council participants the late fee will be $450.00.
  • Troops, Crews, and Ships are encouraged to pay at least part of the fee from their unit budgets.
  • SPECIAL OFFER - Minsi Trails Council units who have not sent youth in the past to NYLT may send one youth for a fee of $200.00. The late fee is $300.00.

Is Any Special Equipment Needed?

  • An equipment list will be sent to each participant. Clothing and equipment should be similar to what each would take to a weeklong summer camp.
  • A completed medical form A, B, and C is required.
  • Full field uniforms are required.

O’Connell NYLT Scholarships

In memory of Charles M. O’Connell IV, a long time Minsi Trails NYLT Scoutmaster who also served in multiple training positions and was an advocate of youth-led training, a limited number of scholarships are available for youths participating in the NYLT program. These scholarships are based on financial need and funds availability. Contact Council NYLT Coordinator Wayne Gross to check on availability and how to apply for an O’Connell NYLT scholarship (see Where Can We Get More Information? section below) Those who would like to make a donation to the O’Connell NYLT Scholarship Fund, please send it to Minsi Trails Council.

RESERVATIONS

The course size is limited so reserve space for your key youth leader(s) as soon as possible. Make your nomination online. A waiting list will be established after the course fills.

  • Full payment per Scout is required with the registration online to hold the reservation.
  • Nominations need to be submitted online by Friday, June 30, 2023.
  • The fee is to be paid by June 30, 2023.
  • If full fee is not paid by June 30, 2023 then the fee is $400.00.
  • NO REFUNDS AFTER June 30, 2023.
  • There will be no reservations accepted after June 30, 2023.

Who May Attend?

Qualified participants are all four:

  1. You are a Senior Patrol Leader, Crew President, Boatswain, or a youth with other Troop, Crew, or Ship leadership experience and the skills and abilities to be Senior Patrol Leader, Crew Officers, or Ship Officers in the future. 
  2. At least 13 years old by August 6, 2023.
  3. Star Scout (First Class Scouts will be accepted if they have the physical and emotional maturity to benefit fully from the experience). Does not apply to Venturers.
  4. Actively supported by their Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper.

How many Scouts may my Troop/Crew/Ship send?

NYLT is a training program, designed to improve the Troop, Crew, and Ship program. Troops, Crews, and Ships may nominate as many leaders as they wish. Troops/Crews/Ships need to name the youth leader(s) who will attend at the time a nomination is made.

Is the Home Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper Involved?

The National Youth Leadership Training is intended to strengthen the relationship between the youth leader and his Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper.

  1. A mandatory pre-course meeting will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 for Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts parents, and the youth’s Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper. We will review course expectations, equipment needed, the Scoutmaster’s/Crew Advisor’s/Skipper's role, and answer any questions. Details for the meeting will be issued at a later date. The pre-course meeting will be at the Nature Lodge at Trexler Scout Reservation.
  2. Each youth leader is expected to apply the skills he/she has learned in his/her home Unit. Each Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper is encouraged to learn what the youth have learned and support them as they put into practice the leadership skills.

What are the Dates? 

  • The weeklong course will occur: Sunday August 6 through Friday August 11
  • Attendance for the full week is required to complete the course. The course starts Sunday morning and ends Friday evening. Details will be provided after registration.

What’s the Location?

The course will be held at Akelaland Camp at the Trexler Scout Reservation, Jonas, PA.

Who Directs the training?

The Scoutmaster for the training Troop is Todd Suess. He is an experienced Scout Leader who is Wood Badge trained. He is building a staff of outstanding Minsi Trails Council youth and adult leaders.
