Youth Leader Nomination

Troop, Crew, or Ship nominations for youth to attend the Minsi Trails Council 2024 National Youth Leadership Training will be online. Nominations need to be submitted by August 16, 2024. The full event fee is due by August 16, 2024, otherwise an additional $100 will be charged. Please provide a contact email. Course confirmation letter and information will be sent by email.

What’s the Cost?

  • The cost for the course is $360.00 per Minsi Trails' Scout, Venturer, or Sea Scout which includes all food and training materials. Out of Council participants fee is $460.
  • If fees are not paid in full by August 16, 2024 the fee is $460.00 for Minsi Trails Scouts and $560 for out of council Scouts.
  • Troops, Crews, and Ships are encouraged to pay at least part of the fee from their unit budgets.
  • SPECIAL OFFER - Minsi Trails Council units who have not sent youth in the past to NYLT may send one youth for a fee of $260.00. The late fee is $360.00. Please contact NYLT staff advisor, Ed Schaefer  at edward.schaefer@scouting.org for the discount code to apply at checkout

Is Any Special Equipment Needed?

  • An equipment list will be sent to each participant. Clothing and equipment should be similar to what each would take to a weekend camp.
  • A completed medical form A, B, and C is required.
  • Full field uniforms are required.

RESERVATIONS

The course size is limited to 48 participants so reserve space for your key youth leader(s) as soon as possible. Make your nomination(s) online. A waiting list will be established after the course fills.

  • Full payment per Scout is required with the registration online to hold the reservation.
  • Nominations need to be submitted online by August 16, 2024.
  • The fee is to be paid by August 16, 2024.
  • If full fee is not paid by August 16, 2024 then a $100 late fee will apply.
  • NO REFUNDS AFTER August 16, 2024.
  • registrations are to be submitted individually for each Scout, units can make multiple nominations as separate registrations

 

Who May Attend?

Qualified participants are all four:

  1. You are a Senior Patrol Leader, Crew President, Boatswain, or a youth with other Troop, Crew, or Ship leadership experience and the skills and abilities to be Senior Patrol Leader, Crew Officers, or Ship Officers in the future. 
  2. At least 13 years old by September 20, 2024.
  3. Star Scout (First Class Scouts will be accepted if they have the physical and emotional maturity to benefit fully from the experience). Does not apply to Venturers.
  4. Actively supported by their Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper.

How many Scouts may my Troop/Crew/Ship send?

NYLT is a training program, designed to improve the Troop, Crew, and Ship program. Troops, Crews, and Ships may nominate as many leaders as they wish. Troops/Crews/Ships need to name the youth leader(s) who will attend at the time a nomination is made.

Is the Home Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper Involved?

The National Youth Leadership Training is intended to strengthen the relationship between the youth leader and his Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper.

  1.  A mandatory pre-course meeting will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 for Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts parents, and the youth’s Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper. We will review course expectations, equipment needed, the Scoutmaster’s/Crew Advisor’s/Skipper's role, and answer any questions. Details for the meeting will be issued at a later dateThe pre-course meeting will be at Camp Minsi.

  2. Each youth leader is expected to apply the skills he/she has learned in his/her home Unit. Each Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper is encouraged to learn what the youth have learned and support them as they put into practice the leadership skills.

What are the Dates?

·         The two weekend course will occur:

Friday evening September 20 through Sunday September 22 and Friday evening September 27 through Sunday September 29

·         Attendance for the full two weekends is required to complete the course. Details will be provided after registration.

The course will be held at Camp Minsi, Pocono Summit, Pa

Who Directs the training?

The Scoutmaster for the training Troop is Sean Frasca. He is an experienced Scout Leader who is Wood Badge trained. He is building a staff of outstanding Minsi Trails Council youth and adult leaders.
